DJ Maris Moon

Maris Moon's sound has certainly evolved with his experiences during his twenty-plus years in dance music. Once known for his blinding mix of techno and UK hard house, Maris has slowed things down considerably. What has emerged over the last several years is a driving, almost cinematic interpretation of house that he calls "slow rave".

Maris got his start throwing illegal parties called Seismic in San Francisco in the early nineties and later owned the coastal record store Vibe Alive in San Luis Obispo. His early dj sets earned him the respect of promoters and in 1995 he got his first break--thanks to a couple of viral mixtapes--and became a regular fixture at west coast raves, mountain parties and beach gatherings, an influential era that still casts a heavy reflection in his music today.

Maris moved to San Diego in the late nineties and quickly became a dominant presence in the city's booming dance scene, holding court on Friday and Saturday nights at the city's two biggest venues--the lengendary Montage (now Spin) and E Street Alley. He shared the stage weekly with the likes of Carl Cox, Dj Dan, Sasha, The Crystal Method and countless others. His travels have taken him to 30 states and 7 countries including regular appearances at UK top clubs Frantic, Heaven, Ministry of Sound, Sundissential, Progress and many more. His collaboration with breakbeat guru Dave London as 'Gravity Boys' produced the hit "Buzz" which landed the boys a spot on Ministry of Sound's Hard Energy series and went Top 20 in the UK compilation charts. Maris has been featured in all major dance press outlets including Mixmag, Muzik and DJ Mag.

When he's not out dj'ing, he's in the studio knocking out remixes, usually bootlegs, of acts like The xx, Die Antwoord, Junkie XL and others. Instead of releasing dozens of singles, Maris has invested several years creating a catalog of unreleased music that will now begin to be released starting mid-2014 under a new partnership with Nexus Artist Management. To top it off, a full length album with Eric Poline from Inspired Flight which that includes collaborations with some of house music's brightest stars is nearing completion.

Maris recently licensed several tracks to independent films, including one about controversial graffiti artist Banksy, and produced a house track for the Obama campaign that features former Paul Oakenfold vocalist Moira which charted at #4 on CdBaby, the largest online distributor. His remix of 'Livin in Sunshine' was included on German imprint Kingdom Kome Black's successful series "Diry Electro, Vol. 5". Maris spent the last two years as label mates with Crystal Castles at Invisibles releasing club fillers like "Overdose", "Ohana" and a crunchy tech house remix of Crystal Castles' "Fainting Spells". He recently inked a deal to release several singles on Beta resident Shea Delaney's Pet Project Recordings and Friction Free. His beautiful Morning Trip dj mixes have been featured on Digitally Imported Radio twice this year.

Maris prefers to spend his time at his adopted home in Honolulu, Hawaii--spinning records with his friends at Asylum and playing beach parties like Firejam. He returns to Hawaii this February for a series of shows on Oahu and Kauai, inviting his favorite dj and his favorite producers to join him--Dj Dan and Hybrid. The shows will include stops at Asylum, The Fix, the annual Silky Love massive and a full moon beach party on Kauai.
