Get Involved in World AIDS Day!

Started on December 1st, 1988, World AIDS Day is recognized around the globe as a day to take action, fight prejudice, and raise awareness about the fight against AIDS.

The following events are taking place on Oahu to recognize World AIDS Day. All events are open to the public.

HIV Research Presentation and Medical Update from Hawaii Center for AIDS on November 28:  Hawaii Center for AIDS is presenting their annual HIV Research and Medical Update 0n Wednesday, Nov. 28, 6-9 p.m., John A. Burns School of Medicine, Medical Education Building, Room 315, 651 Ilalo St. Parking: Free in Lot C (Ewa side of the Medical School). Light refreshments will be served.

World AIDS Day Memorial on December 1st:  The World AIDS Day Committee is organizing a free public memorial service on World AIDS Day, to be held at Church of the Crossroads at 11 am.  The Department of Health will present the eighth annual Suzanne Richmond-Crum Award, and the Honolulu Gay Men’s Chorus will perform a selection of songs. Reception and heavy pupus will follow.

AIDS Memorial Display at State Capitol on December 1st: Life Foundation is organizing an AIDS memorial art exhibit on the State Capitol lawn from 11 am – 6 pm. This exhibit is free and open to the public, and features a large AIDS ribbon with 3,000 smaller ones pinned on it, representing each of the 3,000 people Hawaii has lost to AIDS. The exhibit will also feature white pinwheels, one for each person Hawaii has lost to AIDS in 2012.

DJs Against AIDS:  On Sunday, December 2nd and Thursday, December 6th OOSpot will once again host a double dose of DJ's Against AIDS at Hula's Bar and Lei Stand in honor of World AIDS Day. Come stop by a dance to some of the best DJ's around. All donations will benefit Life Foundation.
